Yabukita, selected at the beginning of the 20th century in Shizuoka by Sugiyama Hikosaburo, owes its name to the place where the mother plant was found ("north of the bamboo grove") and has become Japan's number 1 cultivar for its vigor and consistency, often used to bring freshness and structure.

Okumidori, a late-budding cultivar originating in Shizuoka and then widely established in Kyoto and Kagoshima, is distinguished by its very good shade tolerance: it produces a deep green color and a sweet umami.

Samidori, a local selection from Uji (Kyoto), means "early summer green" and embodies the tradition of shaded teas from Uji: silky umami, very low bitterness, often worked as a monocultivar to express the Uji style or blended to gain length and density.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Essence and other matchas?

Essence is a premium culinary matcha, created for baking and cooking.
It is distinguished by its intense taste, slight bitterness and beautiful green color which retains during cooking.
Less sweet than a ceremonial matcha, but much tastier and of higher quality than classic culinary matchas, it brings character and indulgence to every creation.

Is Essence organic?

Yes, Essence is JAS certified, the Japanese equivalent of the organic label. It is therefore grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, according to Japanese organic standards.

How is gasoline consumed?

Essence is a matcha designed for creation: we developed it for our pastries, with the desire for a matcha that is both powerful in taste, with a beautiful balanced bitterness and a bright color that holds up to cooking.
It enhances both desserts and savory dishes, while offering a quality far superior to classic culinary matchas.
And because it is truly delicious, it can also be enjoyed as a sweet latte, for a indulgent and expressive drink.

Does matcha contain caffeine?

There are approximately 30 to 35 mg of caffeine per gram, or 60 to 70 mg for a typical 2g dose. This is equivalent to an espresso, but without the jittery spike: L-theanine slows down absorption and promotes calm and prolonged alertness.

Can I drink matcha every day?

Yes, no problem. Up to 2 to 3 cups a day if you tolerate it well. It's stimulating without being overstimulating, making it an excellent alternative to coffee, especially in the morning or before work requiring concentration.
